In high demand: Canned meat and vegetables (pop-tops preferred),
paste and pasta sauce, pinto beans, rice, healthy cereal, peanut butter,
baby food and formula.
We also have a revised request related to the holiday party food
drive. Although Capital Area Food Bank includes canned meats and
vegetables as foods in high demand, information on the effects of
bisphenol-a (BPA) in epoxy-based can linings has led us to highly
recommend that you donate safer alternatives.
To the best of our knowledge, there are very few canned foods
with BPA-free linings. For information on specific brands and their use
of BPA, we suggest calling companies directly.
Dry foods that are commercially packaged in boxes or bags are
least likely to contain BPA. Capital area food bank suggests that
healthy cereals, dry beans, rice, and pasta are all high-demand items.
